Mark Harvey

The family & friends of Mark Harvey, 57, announce his passing on September 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born on May 9, 1955 to Leroy & Mildred Harvey at St. Mary Medical Center. He graduated from Wa-Hi and attended both WWCC & CBCC prior to becoming a journeyman carpenter. He participated in the construction of numerous public & private facilities in southeastern Washington prior to joining the Walla Walla School District as a carpenter in 1988, a position he held and enjoyed to the end.

As a man who could build or fix just about anything, he very much enjoyed using those skills to enhance the learning atmosphere for the students and teachers of the local public schools. There is literally a part of Mark throughout Walla Walla.

A unique man, Mark had the intellectual capacity & discipline to be anything; but found his reward by working hard, building & fixing things. In his younger years, he was an avid skydiver and also a scuba dive instructor. He was an accomplished trap shooter who could hunt in the morning and spend the afternoon baking & canning in the kitchen. He would finish a round of golf & proceed to help someone with a complicated car repair.

His many friends were always rewarded by his unfailing assistance and “can do” attitude and no problem couldn’t be solved with a critical analysis and determination. Mark possessed a multitude of skills few others had. He was a loving father, son, brother & grandfather and wonderful friend to many and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Leroy. He is survived by his daughter, Millicent (Jim) Jones; sons, Scott (Kim) Harvey & Bryan Harvey; his mother, Mildred Harvey; brothers, Douglas (Jane) Harvey, Michael (Kathy) Harvey and 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Mya, Ryan, Evan, Justin, Byran & Brysan.

The Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. with Rev. Steve Morris officiating. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at the Masonic Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Regional Cancer Center or Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
