Marjorie Marie Shollenberger passed away at her home in Bonaventure Assisted Living Facility, Richland, WA, on September 19, 2024, at the age of 97. She passed away peacefully in her sleep with her daughter Gayla by her side.
Marjorie was born December 9, 1926, in Clay, Louisiana to Annie and Diaz Ziegler. She developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and gardening. Her skill at growing vegetables, flowers and trees was surpassed only by her dedication and passion as a nurse caring for others at St. Mary’s Hospital and for numerous private physicians in Walla Walla, WA.
After they picked pears to earn enough money for the wedding ceremony, she exchanged vows with Marvin John Shollenberger in Tieton, WA, on October 6, 1950. Together they embarked on a journey that spanned 73 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were a source of pride and joy throughout their lives.
In addition to Marjorie’s career as a nurse, she was also a farmer and a rancher in Washington and Oregon. Marjorie was a strong woman who believed in pulling her fair share of the farm work, and was skilled and knowledgeable in cultivating crops, home gardens, and tending to livestock. For many years, she raised peacocks and was a locally recognized pig farmer, raising and caring for more than 30 pigs and piglets.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her son, Keith John Shollenberger; and her five sisters and brothers. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Gayla Ernst (Chuck), Walla Walla, WA; son, Kenneth Shollenberger (Nancy), Long Creek, OR; her five grandchildren Teri Bean, Amy Johnson, Bryan Shollenberger, Tracy Shollenberger, Deanne Shollenberger, and her great-grandchildren.
