Marion Katherine Yenney

Marion K. Yenney, age 96, passed away January 5, 2018 at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland, Wa.

Marion was born May 10, 1921 to John and Katherine Harding Hergert in Walla Walla, WA. She spent her childhood in Walla Walla and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1939. She was a member of the Math Club, Honorary Girls’ Sports Club President, and Class Vice President.

Marion married Lester A. Yenney November 30, 1941, in Lewiston, Idaho. When Lester was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Marion worked in Portland, OR and gave birth to their son Dale A. Yenney in 1942. After Lester’s return they resumed farming in Lowden, WA. Allan L. Yenney was born in 1946. They had farming interests in both Lowden and Walla Walla during this time.
They began another farming operation in Eltopia, WA in 1958 and 1959. Marion and Lester lived there until Lester’s death in 2006. Marion then moved into Kennewick in 2007 where she resided until her move to Richland in 2017.

Marion’s main occupation in life was being a farmer along-side her husband. They grew various crops including sugar beets, wheat, alfalfa and they also grew gladiolas commercially for a few years. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Marion was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was an avid reader of the daily newspaper and novels. She also loved to tend her flowers until she moved from her home in 2015. Her attention to detail regarding business affairs earned her an award from the IRS for having the best set of farm books ever audited.

Marion is survived by her two brothers, Bob and Elaine Hergert of Walla Walla, and Johnny and Joyce Hergert, of Silverdale, WA; sons, Dale A. and Nancy Yenney of Spokane, Allan L. Yenney and Sharon Williams of Pasco; niece, Patty and husband Roy Albertson of Spirit Lake, WA; nephew, Bill and Kaye Lasch of Mesa, WA; 6 grandchildren (Ron Yenney, Ephrata; Michele and Mike Maxson, Richland; Doug Yenney, Walla Walla; Kristi Phillips, Silver Lake, MN; Norman and Pam Yenney, Kennewick; and Ginger Yenney, Pasco. She had 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Marion is preceded in death by her husband Lester, parents, and sister Frances Lasch.

Viewing and Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:00AM until 7:00PM at the Herring Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:30PM at the funeral home with Craig Timmons, officiant .

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home 315 W. Alder Walla Walla, WA.
