Marilyn McDowell Sjoberg passed peacefully September 14, 2017 at Regency at the Park in College Place Washington.
She was born July 18, 1933 in Provo Utah to George Alvin and Sylvia Amanda McDowell. In 1935 the McDowell Family moved to Walla Walla. Marilyn attended Berney School, Prospect Point and Walla Walla High School graduating in 1951. A year later she attended two years of College at Brigham Young University. Marilyn’s Gleaner teacher Erma Maughan; gave her brother Russell, Marilyn’s address. Russell was in the Navy and sent letters to Marilyn while she was in college. When Russell returned from the Navy in 1955 he ask Marilyn to be his wife. Marilyn accepted and married the love of her life September 9, 1955 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Russell attended College at Brigham Young University. In 1956 their first child Paul was born. In 1957 Russell was hired as a draftsman by the Corp of Engineers in Walla Walla. Marilyn was thrilled to move back to Walla Walla and be near her family again. Over the years Russell and Marilyn had four more children, Gary, Kristina, Brian, and Rosann. Marilyn enjoyed being a wife and a mother and raising her children. As her children married they gave her 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She loved spending time caring for the grandchildren and having family gatherings in their home.
Marilyn was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years she was called to hold many positions. She enjoyed playing the piano and assisting members and non-members in the genealogy department. Russell and Marilyn served a mission in Texas. She enjoyed sharing the gospel with others.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Russell Sjoberg; sons Paul (Lourdes), Gary (Colleen), Bryan; daughters Kristina(Buck), Rosann. Daughter in-law-Salema. Brother in-law Alve Murdock. Ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Estell, Gordon; sisters Dorene Jeffs, and Sylvia Murdock.
The family would like to thank Regency at the Park, Hospice and church members for the loving care they gave Marilyn prior to her death.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home from 11:00AM to 7:00PM.315 W. Alder St. Walla Walla, WA. 99362
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Walla Walla Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop Robert Grandstaff, officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund or the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
