Maria Tello Castilleja born on September 12, 1924, in Dr. Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Jose Castilleja Hernandez and Sebastiana Tello Jasso.
Maria was a very healthy 99-year-old woman with no chronic illnesses. Our god Jehovah gave her peace to rest, took her soul and body into a deep sleep waiting for resurrection. She married Justion Briones Castillo and had 7 loving children: Roberto Briones, Rosendo Briones, Jose Luis Briones, Elida Briones Castilleja, Aurora Briones Guerra, Consolacion Briones de Morales, Jesus Briones.
Maria migrated legally into the United States in 1965 and moved to Walla Walla, WA to work for Mr. Phillips cutting asparagus. She also worked in canneries and field work. She worked as a care aide until 2006. Maria was known for her kindness and charitableness in the College Place and Walla Walla community. For entertainment she crocheted beautiful table covers, cross stitch, and embroidery. She was a great cook and shared her food with many people and cooked for weddings.
Maria is survived by her daughters, Aurora Briones Guerra and Consolacion Briones de Morales; son, Jesus Briones; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, four step-great-grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 4-6 PM, at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 10 AM, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Matthew Nicks, celebrating.
