Margot Louise Drone, 72, of Walla Walla, passed
away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.
She was born to Forrest and Evelyn Maus on April
14, 1942, in Robinson, Ill. Margot graduated from
Eastern Illinois University in 1964 where she received
a BA in education. She married the love of her
life. Gary, in 1967. The two lived together in Champaign,
Ill., before relocating to Washington state in
1970.
Margot was a high school teacher in Decatur, Ill.,
where she was passionate about making a difference
in the lives of her students. She was also a writer and
photographer for the Statesman-Examiner Newspaper
in Colville, Wash. She founded multiple church
prayer groups and was active in church choir and
other activities. She was always a true spiritual anchor
for her family and community. Margot loved the
outdoors and spending time with her family. She was
proud to say that she once hiked all the way to the
bottom of the Grand Canyon.
Her compassion extended in her love for animals,
most notably horses. Margot’s loving and carefree nature
was contagious and evident to all.
Margot is preceded in death by her parents, Forrest
and Evelyn, and brother Dean Maus. Margot is
survived by her ever-loving husband Gary; brother
Larry Maus; sons Stephen and Christopher Drone;
an adopted daughter, Jessica; and two grandchildren,
Caleb and Oliver Drone.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
be made to Walla Walla Christian Aid Center.
On Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at 10 a.m., a memorial
service will be held at Stateline Community Church,
85440 Hwy. 11, Milton-Freewater, Ore.
