Margery Lea Buroker Jass was born March 10, 1935, at home in Waitsburg, Washington to Elmer and Clarice Grove Buroker.
One of five children, Marge and her family traveled to many states in childhood days. She attended various grade schools and graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington in 1953. After graduation, Marge worked as a Telephone Operator at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph.
During her time working as a telephone operator, she met her future husband, Robert Carl Jass, who was stationed at Fairchild Air Force base in Spokane. They married in 1956. After her husband was discharged, they moved to Mountain Lake, Minnesota where they farmed corn and soybeans. Eventually, they started their own business providing animal feed products and portable feed milling to the local farmers.
Robert and Marge had one son, Eric, who was born in Windom, Minnesota in 1958 and spent the first part of his childhood on the family farm. Eventually, Robert and Marge divorced. Marge and her son moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania where she trained in Data Processing for 2 years. Marge and her son returned to her home area in 1970 and continued her Data Processing career for Whitman College and Rogers Walla Walla Canning. Marge went to work for the City of Walla Walla in 1974 as a data entry specialist and later transferred to the finance department. Marge retired from the City of Walla Walla in 1997.
Marge loved to bowl and had played in many leagues since 1958. She also enjoyed playing in pool leagues with her friends. Playing cards and table games with her mother and sisters were amongst her most precious times. Marge loved the outdoors, the mountains and fishing with her sisters, Marda and Diane. Marge was a current member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was a member of the Eagles in Walla Walla for over 50 years.
Marge had a great sense of humor and a wonderful love for life and people. Although, she was jokingly referred to as “Marge the Sarge” because of her “matter of fact” demeanor. She would like to give special thanks to all her Eagles brothers and sisters for all the love received. And to her special friend Karen Franks and her family. A huge thanks to Virginia, Jeff and Matt and the entire staff at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home: “much love to you all”.
