Maisie Laurene (Huff) Stiller was called to be with the Lord on October 25, 2017. Maisie passed away at her home in Walla Walla, Washington, with her loving daughters Susie and Sheryl by her side.
Maisie was born December 22, 1934, in Dayton, Washington, the daughter of Clifford Lyle Huff and Ruth Mae (Adamson) Huff. She attended Sharpstein, Berney, and Edison Elementary Schools, 7th grade in Milton-Freewater, 8th grade at Ferndale, freshman year at Mac High and attended Wa-Hi. She also attended Walla Walla Community College. Maisie enjoyed camping, fishing and boating with her family as she was growing up.
On April 20, 1952, Maisie married the love of her life, Jerry Stiller, at the Central Christian Church in Walla Walla, where they raised their family on their wheat farm. They had three daughters, Sheryl Stiller (Chip Lanzi), Susie (Bob) Haberman and Sandi (Brad) Patton. Maisie’s life was complete; she loved being a wife, a mother, and a full partner out at the ranch. She was always there for her girls and involved in their activities through school, sports, and church. Later in life, Maisie also worked at the Bon Marche, the Walla Walla County Assessor’s Office, and most recently with Bryan & Associates, Fee Appraiser.
Maisie’s life revolved around her family and her friends (which included her beloved poodles, Tara and Lucy). Susie and Sheryl recall that their mom read her daily devotions every morning to start her day and she maintained a journal of her life that is a treasure they will keep forever. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling, motorcycle and bicycle riding, clogging, sewing (including making all of her daughters’ prom dresses), knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, cross stitch, stamping and painting – and she shared these things with her friends.
Maisie’s favorite song was “Some of God’s Greatest Gifts Are Unanswered Prayers.” Sometimes life throws you a curve ball that you don’t anticipate, and for Maisie that curve ball was her marriage ending. But as her “Gift” from that, she and Jerry re-established their friendship and a strong, caring relationship that lasted the rest of her life. As she lived this phase of her life, she became involved in community activities, expanding her circle of friends (of which there were too many to count), and walking every day with her faith in her heart and believing strongly in the Lord. Maisie served on the Board of Directors for the Rural Electric Association, volunteered at the Carnegie Art Center, the Red Cross, and the Children’s Museum.
One of the greatest gifts in Maisie’s life was her grandchildren, Heather (Alvin) Slusser, Kirsten (Jason) Timmons, Scott (Erin) Haberman, Tyler (Lexie) Haberman, Blake Haberman, Niko Lanzi, Chanel (Sam) Snead, Sydney Patton and Kianna Patton. The pride and joy that they brought into her life was beautiful. Her great-grandchildren, Dalton Thompson, Zachary Thompson, Tucker Thompson, Ella Slusser, Dakota Slusser, Teegan Timmons, Kinsley Timmons, Grayson Haberman and Cora Rae Haberman all held a very special place in her heart.
Maisie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings (Clifford L. Huff Jr., Shirley Lavonne Humphries, and Billie Dean Huff). She has one surviving brother, Richard Albert Huff (Butch).
