Lucio Huerta Coronado

Lucio Huerta Coronado of Walla Walla, passed away peacefully at Regency at the Park on January 10, 2019, at age 91.  He was born in Edinburg, Texas, on July 6, 1927, to Francisco and Casimira Coronado.

He married Ramona Coronado on April 19, 1948. In 1949, they moved from Edinburg to Walla Walla. He worked various jobs as a laborer for Donise Manuel, and later worked for Birdseye Cannery until his retirement. Lucio was a member of St. Patrick Church, served as an usher and assisted in other parish activities. He loved baseball, watching the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, working in his yard, trimming his roses, going for walks, and spending time with his grandchildren.

His love for his family was tremendous; family was his priority...his everything.

Lucio is survived by his wife, Ramona; his six children, Genaro Coronado, Irma (Frank) Leonetti, Rebecca Cruz, Abel Coronado, Ricardo Coronado, and Diana (Ron) Coronado Wheeler; 10 grandchildren, Tom (Claudia) Stephenson, Jason (Saundra) Coronado, Justin (Dawna) Coronado, Marisol Cruz, Antonio (Amanda) Lemus, Jr., Christina (Stevan) Arevalo, Andrea Wheeler, Brandy (John) Bishop, Joe (Angie) Leonetti, and Kara Leonetti; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Luis Coronado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Pilar Coronado; and brother and sisters, Encarnacion Coronado, Micaela Palomarez, Celia Gonzalez, Tomasa Coronado, and Trine Canizalez.

A private graveside service will be held officiated by Deacon Olegario Reyes.

Memorial contributions in Lucio’s memory may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla.

A special thank you to Lilia Craig, Cindy Oster, Adrian and Eileen Reyes, and Jacob Coronado for their support and assistance during this difficult time, and to the first responders, the staff at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Regency at the Park, and Walla Walla Community Hospice for the compassionate and excellent care they provided. Also, many thanks to the neighborhood families…he enjoyed your visits, and the many hand waves and honks while he worked in his yard!
