Lucille (Lu) Rasmussen

April 21, 1924 — November 8, 2022

Walla Walla

Lucille (Cornmesser) Rasmussen was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Vern and Alice Cornmesser. With their seven children, her parents made a living by farming and, after numerous moves, finally settled near Payette, Idaho. Lu graduated from Payette High School in 1942 and, shortly after, moved to Spangle, Washington, where she worked various jobs until 1945, when she married Ervin Rasmussen. They moved to the Rasmussen family farm, where she spent all her married life and raised their two sons. Ervin passed away in 1989, and shortly after that, Lu joined her sister and brother-in-law working in International Falls, Minnesota, and the island of St. Croix. In 1991, she moved to Walla Walla, where she spent her time traveling and doing all the things she liked to do. She moved into the Washington Odd Fellows Home in 2018.

Lu always enjoyed being busy. She was an excellent seamstress, and besides having worked in upholstery shops, she sewed clothing, curtains, and handbags for family and friends. Her handbags became popular, and many were sold throughout the US.

In recent years she had made numerous afghans, quilts, and lap robes that she lovingly gave to family and friends and donated many to the residents of the local Veterans and Odd Fellows Homes.

Lu’s family was the greatest gift in her life. She is survived by her two sons, Joe (Nancy) and Dick (Judy), four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lu had a lifetime of wonderful memories to celebrate and was a kind and loving person who easily made friends wherever she went.

Lu passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on November 8, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
