Loyd Wallace Mahan

Loyd Wallace Mahan was born to Loyd Wesley and Grace McKenzie Mahan June 4, 1929.  Loyd was educated at Green Park School, Walla Walla High School Class of 1947 and also at Whitman College and graduated from there in 1951.

After graduation from Whitman College, Loyd was drafted into the US Army and was sent off to Korea.  After his duration in Korea, Loyd was discharged and returned to his home in Walla Walla.  The Mahan’s had a fuel business in Walla Walla and Loyd joined his father in the business.  Loyd was the only Mahan boy but had 3 sisters Donnabelle, Penny and Lorna which was his twin sister.  Loyd was an Alumnus from Whitman College and worked with the Alumni Foundation.  Loyd was also a Beta Thata Phi Brother and Vice President of the National Beta Thata Phi.  Loyd was District Chief for Beta Thata Phi Fraternity at Whitman College in the 80’s and on into the 90’s for Idaho, Washington State and Whitman College.

When he returned home from Korea he met a young Walla Walla girl Virginia L. Herring, they married on Sunday, August 11, 1957 and have lived in Walla Walla ever since then.  They had 3 children, 2 boys Jeffrey (Donna) Mahan, Matt (Lita) Mahan and a daughter Megan (John) Brashear.  Loyd has 4 Grandchildren, Lindsey (Andy) Shantz, Drew (Ashley) Mahan, Whitney (Ryan) Brashear and Zach Mahan.

Loyd was a member of the Exchange Club and several other clubs in the Walla Walla Community.  He loved to garden and took great pride in its care.

Viewing and Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home from 3:00PM-7:00PM.  Funeral Service will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00AM.  Vault Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
