Longtime Walla Walla resident, Lorraine Marguerite Aubert Eyraud, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 22. She was surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
The youngest of five children, Lorraine was born April 4, 1934, to August and Rosa Aubert, both French immigrants from the Champsaur region. Her family had a large sheep ranch outside of Connell, Wash., where she enjoyed spending time. She was also very active in the Catholic Church and Catholic School system, attending Assumption and St. Patrick Catholic Churches. Lorraine attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in 1952. She continued her education at Marylhurst College (now University) in Portland.
In 1951, she met a dapper young Frenchman, Marcel Eyraud, from La Motte-en-Champsaur. The two hit it off and were married May 12, 1956. Lorraine spoke fluent French and loved keeping in contact with her French relatives. She would often travel to France with her family to visit both Marcel’s and her relatives. One of her favorite spots to visit was La Salette, a small village where the Virgin Mary appeared to two small children. Lorraine loved traveling, and could often be found visiting relatives across the state and in France. Lorraine loved cooking, and was famous for her French tourtons. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters Association.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Marcel L. Eyraud; son, Marc Eyraud and daughter-in-law Shelley Smith of Portland; daughter, Annette R. Eyraud and son-in-law Anton Loggen of Issaquah, Washington; and grandchildren, Sophia, Annabelle, and AJ Loggen; and sister, Rose Meyer of Walla Walla. She was preceded in death by her son, Roger Eyraud; granddaughter, Madeleine Loggen; and siblings, Madeleine Omlin, Simone Miller, and August Aubert.
A rosary will be recited at Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder Street, at 6 pm on Friday, March 3. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Steve Dublinski, will be at Assumption Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on March 4. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Marcus Whitman Hotel. All are welcome.
