Dorris Lorraine Diers,
91, of Walla Walla passed
peacefully on Jan. 10,
2016.
Lorraine was born Jan. 26, 1924, in New Plymouth,
Idaho, to Howard and Della Ferrell Bishop and
was raised in Meadows Valley, Idaho.
Shortly after
graduating from Meadows Valley High she married
Delbert H. Diers on May 24, 1941, in Meridian, Idaho.
While Del served in the Army, Lorraine worked at
Mountain Home Air Force Base on the B-17 Flying
Fortress and the B-24 Liberator. Following World
War II Del worked on various dam projects for the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and in 1967 he and
Lorraine settled in Walla Walla.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan J. Diers Dysart of
West Richland; son, Timothy A. Diers of Walla Walla;
brother, Howard (Mona) Bishop of Prospect, Ore.;
brother-in-law, Fred (Cheryl) Diers of Downington,
Pa.; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and two
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Delbert; sisters, Anna R. Merritt, Aileen
Gardner, Loeta Dunken McClung; and good
friend, Camille Cundiff.
Lorraine was a member of the Homemakers Club,
where she met longtime friend Camille Cundiff. They
enjoyed many walks and social events together. Lorraine
enjoyed traveling and sewing; was an avid reader
of the local Union-Bulletin and until very recently
gleaned every bit of information from the daily newspaper.
Her dearest friends and former neighbors, Steve and
Barbara Maxwell made Lorraine’s life immeasurably
easier and much more enjoyable. Their two daughters,
Emma and Amy, were her “adopted” grandchildren
who enriched her life with joy and amusement.
She took pleasure in conversations and visits with
longtime friends, Jeff Morse, Yvonne and John Jaso.
Lorraine will be sorely missed.
At Lorraine’s request, cremation was at Herring-
Groseclose Funeral Home. Her ashes will be interred
with her husband’s at Mount McCaleb Cemetery in
Mackay, Idaho, during a graveside memorial service
in June. Memorial contributions can be made to Blue
Mountain Humane Society.
