Lloyd Dozier

May 8, 1930 — November 21, 2016

Walla Walla

Lloyd M. Dozier was born in Springerton, Illinois on May 8, 1930, to Everett and Avaline Dozier. He grew up in a family of 7 brothers and 1 sister. He started working at the age of 11, while attending school in rural Illinois, graduating from Fairfield Community High School in 1948.

During the summers of 1947 and 1948, Lloyd travelled to Prescott, Washington to work wheat harvest for Lester Robison. In the fall of 1948, he enrolled in Southern Illinois University, and attended school for 2-1/2 years. He then made the decision to enlist in the Air Force in January of 1951. After completing his commitment to the Air Force on December 16, 1954, he returned to the Prescott area to work for the Robison family.

In September of 1955, Lloyd enrolled in Washington State University to continue his college education, but soon after, his car broke down, and he didn’t have the money to fix his car, so he went back to work on the Robison farm. Prior to going back to school, in May of 1955, he had met and become smitten with Eleonore Bergstrasser, a young German girl who had recently immigrated to the United States. On February 5, 1956, he and “Elli” were married in Walla Walla. He continued to work for the Robison family until Fall of 1957, when he went to work for the Prescott Farmers’ Co-Op. In the Spring of 1963, Lloyd returned to the Robison family farm, where he raised his family, until he retired in 1995. He and Elli moved to Walla Walla, but Lloyd continued to work “part-time” for the next 10 years by helping his son, Perry, on his farm.

Lloyd was a very kind and generous man, always smiling, and never knew a stranger. He worked harder than he ever played, and everything he did was for the benefit of his family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and still “wrastled” with them well into his 80’s. He loved to fish whenever he got the opportunity, and spent many hours daily in his yard, creating a park-like garden around his home. He was a member of the Prescott Lions Club, Walla Walla Elks Club and was the Director of the Prescott School Board for many years.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Elli, at home; daughter Cindy (Randy) Stockton; son Perry (Darleen) Dozier; and daughter Teresa (Pat) McConnell; grandchildren Shauna Malcolm, Lindsay Miller, Cameron McConnell, Kylie McConnell, Logan Dozier, and Kyle Dozier; great-grandchildren Declan and Easton Malcolm, and Evelyn Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings (Beulah, Lester, Marvin, John, and Lawrence Dozier).

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Walla Walla, with Rev. Mark Koonz officiating.
