Leslie Vernon Jasper (82) passed away from Lymphoma on November 13, 2025, at Providence Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. Born January 11, 1943, to Vernon Leslie Oaks and Pauline Huss Oaks, he was later adopted by his stepfather, Thomas Jasper.
Les was a graduate of Walla Walla High School (1961) and Central Washington University (1966). After graduation, he joined the US Army, entered Officers Candidate School, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1967, did a tour in Vietnam, and was discharged as a Captain in 1970. Les was proud of the four years he spent in the Army, and especially proud of the honors he earned: a Bronze Star, a Vietnam Service Medal with three service stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with devise 60, and an Army Commendation Medal.
Les spent the majority of his working life in the Beer Wholesale Business. He truly loved the Beer Business and owned successful distributorships in Klamath Falls, Oregon; Kelso, Washington; and his final one, before retiring, in Pullman, Washington, and Lewiston, Idaho. Les cherished his children and his many close friends. He loved traveling, finding new restaurants, spending time at his home in Arizona, and had a lifelong love of cars -- old and new.
Les married Charlene Selby, his childhood sweetheart, in 1964. They were married for 29 years and had four children together: daughter, Stacy Jasper (husband Aaron) of Durham, North Carolina; son, Michael Jasper of Pullman, Washington; and sons Daniel and David, who preceded him in death. He was later married to Jan Blair Wilmoth for 18 years and had one stepson, Dan Wilmoth, of Lewiston, Idaho.
Les was deeply loved by family and friends -- he will be greatly missed.
Les's ashes will be buried next to family in the Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. A Military Service will be held at the VA Chapel in Walla Walla, Washington, on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at another location following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Les's honor to the Providence Childcare Center in Portland, Oregon (https://www.providence.org/locations/or/providence-child-center) or the Blue Mountain Humane Society in Walla Walla, Washington (https://www.bluemountainhumane.org/quick-gifts).
