Leslie ’Les’ Lorenzo Clark, 95, quietly entered into eternal peace on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at his home in Walla Walla.
Les was born August 21, 1923, in Galesburg, IL. He attended school in Peoria, IL where he met Anna Jane McAuslan; they married December 13, 1944. Les entered the Navy on December 8, 1941. He had enlisted service during WWII aboard a Navy Subchaser in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres. Among his service awards was the Purple Heart. Following wartime service, he completed his college degree and received a Navy commission. Recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict, he served on the admiralty staff in London, England. Les remained in the active reserves, rising to the rank of Lt Commander at his retirement.
He loved singing and was a member Walla Walla Symphony Choral and church choirs wherever he lived. He enjoyed playing golf from east coast to west. Les was known for his dedicated service to Rotary for over 20 years. He was also a valued member of the Boy Scouts, Elks, YMCA, and Retired Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo, in 1954, his mother, Mildred, in 2001, and his son, Richard in 1994.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by wife, Anna Jane; son and his wife, Les and Diana; grandson and his wife, Don and Stephanie; greatgrandchildren, Tyler and Logan; and loving nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held graveside at Milton-Freewater Cemetery on December 13, 2018.
There will be a friendship gathering held in his honor at 1st Presbyterian Church from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
