L. Nadine Dysart

November 4, 1921 — July 3, 2024

Walla Walla

L. Nadine Dysart passed away on July 03, 2024, in Walla Walla, Washington after a life richly lived. She was 102 years young.

Nadine was born at her grandmother's home in Turner, Washington on November 04, 1921. She was the youngest of three children born to Mabell Rockhill Cecil and Glen Cecil. Nadine grew up on the wheat ranch during the depression which likely contributed to her can-do attitude and ability to jerry-rig anything when necessary.

Nadine moved to Walla Walla in 1938 and happily called it home for the rest of her life. She was hired by the Van Petten Lumber Company, and they were her only employer for 60 years. She loved the smell of fresh cut lumber and said she was actually a carpenter in disguise.

Her family was not large, so Nadine cultivated friends of all ages. Anyone in her chosen circle was frequently gifted with home-made jams, pickles and tasty desserts as she experimented with new recipes. We all have more beautiful gardens (and can actually name the flowers) thanks to Nadine. A highlight in her year was the annual trip to the Oregon Coast where she always insisted on at least one beach picnic, regardless of the weather. It gave "sand'wich a whole new meaning. Her computer kept her in touch with her world and was also a source for basketball schedules, new sewing and quilting projects. Wednesdays were game day. Many games of Canasta and Rummikub were played. Even though she said, "It was just a game", she didn't mind winning! The Canasta Club was a special group of friends that met on her ground, opened their hearts and made her so happy.

We all wanted to be around Nadine and wanted to grow up and be like her. She quietly taught the beauty in aging thankfully and gracefully.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Mabel Cecil. Her brother and sister-in-law, John and Maxine Cecil and their son, Glen Cecil; her sister, J. Lenore Ray and nephew Lynn Ray. She is survived by her niece, Jean Lilja, nephew, Blane Ray and their families, which includes five great-nieces and nephews, and seven great-great-nieces and nephews. Also, a group of dearly loved friends, old and new, including Jean Stiller, Penny and Larry Dimino, Peggy and Bill Cox, Deborah and Mike Prior, Matt and Becky Drumheller, Therese Failing, Ed Wilkenson, Eddie Walker, John (Skip) Miller and their families.

Celebration of Nadine's life will be held on July 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Stateline Community Church, 85440 OR-11, Milton Freewater, OR. A coffee hour will be held following the service at the church.
