Kent Roger Heaton

April 4, 1931 — February 29, 2024

Salem

Kent Roger Heaton, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, at Salem Health Hospital, Salem, Oregon. He was born to William and Hattie Heaton on April 4, 1931, in Ransom County, North Dakota. Kent had four siblings, including Glenn (Phillis), Neva (Charles), Fay, and Ila (Kenny). Ila still resides in Valley City, ND.

Kent was a loving and devoted father to six children, including William (Marilyn), Wendy, Rebecca (Steve), Amy (Dan), Jay (Sandra), and Jeff (Sonja). He was also a cherished grandfather to 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, bringing joy and laughter to their lives.

Throughout his life, Kent was known for his Loving concern for all his family, belief in higher education, and the pursuit of always striving to be your best. He had a passion for painting and travel, often spending his free time painting memorable places from his past. His kindness, generosity, and love endeared him to all who knew him.

Kent entered the army in 1951, serving in an Artillery unit during the Korean War. His honorable service to his country will be appreciated by all. Professionally, Kent had a successful career in education, where he achieved his BS in Education at ND State (57) and his Doctorate in Education at BYU (78). He worked as a teacher, counselor, and superintendent of schools in North Dakota, Oregon, and Idaho.

It was not Kent’s wish to have a viewing or memorial service. A celebration of Kent’s life will be held in early summer in Ransom County, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a veteran’s charity of choice, a cause that was close to his heart.

Kent will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Though he may be gone, his memory will live on in our hearts, and he will be remembered with love and fondness forever.
