Kay Louise Maiuri

July 2, 1947 — August 22, 2014

Kay Louise (Prest) Maiuri, 67, a Walla Walla native and lifelong resident, lost her battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on Friday Aug., 22, 2014, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center. She was born in Walla Walla on July 2, 1947, to Max and Hazel Bennett Prest.

She attended Prospect Point Elementary School and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1965. She married Robert Maiuri in 1966 and they later divorced. She then married Jesse Alexander and he preceded her in death.

She was a mother, grandmother, life-partner, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to countless others. Kay was known by everyone as a generous and loving person who believed no meal would be complete without her bringing enough food to feed a small town, no matter the size of the gathering! She was known by all as an amazing home cook/baker of everything from Italian cuisine to breads and rolls and amazing desserts. She worked for many years at Rogers Cannery, before joining her mother, Hazel Prest-Pomraning in retail work at the Book Nook, Southgate and Loney Drug Stores. In her later years she worked as a volunteer with The Salvation Army, Hospice and other in-home support organizations. Her last place of employment was Albertsons in Walla Walla. This is where she met Tom Daniel, her life partner of 19 years. She adored her sons and grandchildren, loved to attend their sporting and school events, and was one of the most loving devoted pet owners anyone could ever know. Throughout her life, Kay’s travels always took her back to her most beloved area — “The Beach.” Cannon Beach was always her favorite place to rest. The travels up and down the coast line from storia, Seaside, Tillamook and Lincoln City held fond memories for her throughout her life. Haystack “The Rock,” morning walks looking for sand dollars and the timeless beauty and simplicity of the ocean was her place of solace.

She is survived by her two sons, Jay Maiuri and Marc Maiuri (Angie); five grandchildren, Breanna, Gina, Natalia, Dante and Lindsey; her life partner of 19 years, Tom Daniel; her mother, Hazel Pomraning; her two sisters, Sandra Hallowell and Donna Barron; and numerous nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Max Prest; step-father, Ken Pomraning; husband, Jesse Alexander; sister, Gaye Abajian; and daughter-in-law, Megan Maiuri.
