Kathryn Christene Thrasher

May 11, 1930 — November 23, 2025

Richland

Kathryn Christene Thrasher passed away on November 23, 2025. She was born on May 11, 1930, in Gruver, Texas, to John and Vera Dillow. At the age of six, the family moved to eastern Colorado until 1946, when they moved to Grandview, WA. Upon graduating from Grandview High School in 1948, she began work at the Hanford Nuclear Site in Richland, WA, as a secretary.

Christene married Bill Thrasher on February 20, 1949, in Grandview at the family’s home. They had two sons, Michael and Kenneth. In 1956, the family moved to Walla Walla, WA. Her passions included taking care of the home and family, decorating, cooking, and especially baking. She had a gift for hospitality, always inviting people to Sunday dinner and opening her home to help family members. The cookie jar was always full. She had a gift for serving, taking care of her parents in their later years, and caring for her sister and brother before they died. She visited people who couldn’t get out because she said no one else visits them. In later years, she liked to read and do Word Search. A major part of her life was giving of time and service to her church, family, and people around her. Her life was centered around her Lord and Savior.

When the boys started school, Christene went to work as a cafeteria cook for the Walla Walla School District. These hours matched perfectly with her desire to care for her family. She put in 27 years as a cook at different schools in Walla Walla. She was kind, patient, and generous with all the people she worked with.

Christene is preceded in death by husband, Bill Thrasher; sister, Loretta Davis; and brother, Ron Dillow. She is survived by sons: Mike Thrasher (Bev), of Richland WA. Ken Thrasher (Carol) of Sparks NV, along with five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
