College Place

Kathryn Naoma Mejorado, known to many as Kathy with a K, passed peacefully on November 14, 2024, with her daughter Amber, Grandson Jacob, her inherited daughter Jasmine (Alyss), and Austin, one of the best caregivers in the world, who became family, after a long 8 ½ year battle with illnesses.

Kathy was born to Tyke and Rosemary Serven on October 27, 1967. She joined an older brother, Anthony (Tyke), and later gained a little sister, Melodie. Tyke and Rosemary later divorced, and Kathy was blessed with stepdad Alfred (Al) to which Kathy also gained another brother Darren.

Throughout school, Kathy had lifelong friends that she always held dear. Many summers were spent chasing boys at Memorial Pool. In 7th grade, she met the man she would forever love, Sam. Kathy loved to sing and was always a part of the choir; she’d tell you that the only reason she went to school was to be able to sing in the choir. There was once that Kathy and her friends went for a drive down “the gut,” throwing tomatoes at everything they saw. In 8th grade, Kathy was pregnant and made a choice to leave school because “no one wanted a pregnant person in the choir.” In March of 1984, Kathy found her calling as a mom and was blessed with her son Nicholas (Nick). Sam and Kathy Married in April 1985 and welcomed a little girl in September 1985. Sam and Kathy later divorced but remained friends, and though life happened, she never stopped loving Sam. Kathy was always first a mom, always making sure Nick and Amber were cared for. Even when she got sick with Ovarian Cancer while the kids were in grade school.

Many days on the field of Nick’s football practice and games being the first to cheer him on. While supporting Amber’s addiction to animals and always wanting more. The numerous friends of the kids that became her extra kids. Kathy later in life became a caregiver. She took great care of the elderly so they could remain in their homes, and a common phrase, “She was the best caregiver anyone could ask for,” was often said. When Kathy hung up the title of caregiver, she became a cashier at a gas station. She loved that gas station and poured much of her heart into that store. If you know Taj, you know Kathy; they went hand in hand for years. Kathy became a grandma in May of 2003, and it was often joked that she loved her grandkid(s) more than her children. Each one of them brought her a different joy.

Kathy is survived by her son, Nick and Sandra Mejorado. Daughter, Amber and Mike McIntosh. Grandchildren, William, Jacob, Riley and Landyn Mejorado. Amber, Jonathan, Emerie Wilson. Devin and Keegan McIntosh. Great-granddaughter, Laylah Mejorado. Brothers, Tyke and Ruby Serven; Darren and Maggie Northrop. Sister, Melodie Serven. Numerous nieces and nephews. Aunts and uncles and, of course, friends. To know Kathy was a blessing, and if you got the middle finger, you knew you were in her good graces. Kathy is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and grandson, Jolan Wilson.

I would like to note the care that Dr Vawter provided Kathy during this illness. The many appointments that seemed like they had no answers, but he seen her anyways. The mychart messages with possibly the dumbest questions but he always answered.

Care staff at Eagle Springs: Alyss, Austin, Zach, Shelly, Brianna, and Sharron, just to name a few. I couldn’t have done some of this without you being there every day.
