Kathlyn Elizabeth Wasser

December 28, 1915 — May 8, 2016

Walla Walla

Kathlyn Elizabeth Wasser was born Dec. 28, 1915, to Joseph and Elizabeth McLaughlin in Seattle. She passed away at 100 years 4 months at her home in Walla Walla. She was the second of three daughters born to Irish immigrants and attended St. Ann Catholic
School in Seattle. She met Kenneth Wasser and married him on Sept. 22, 1934. They lived in Port Orchard and moved to College Place in 1936.
She had a talented artistic eye and took up photography developing
her own pictures.During World War II, Ken was stationed in Texas
and Utah and she moved along with him. Upon return to Walla Walla they adopted first, Catherine (Katie) and then Philip, and she raised them there.
She took up painting and many other artistic mediums throughout her life. She was a great mother and friend — the mother who dressed up with the kids at Halloween and let the bummer lamb ride in the car
when they lived on the farm.
After Ken retired they divided their year between Walla Walla and Palm Desert, Calif., for many years.
She suffered a serious stroke in 1999 and lived her successive years with grace and dignity. Her longterm caregivers, Roy Castillo and Maria Magana, provided her with quality care.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ken; sisters, Grace Wuthenow and Joan Krohn. Survivors include daughter, Katie Matthews; son, Phil Wasser; grandchildren, Chad Bughi, Amy Woiblet, Phil Wasser Jr.,
Elizabeth Wasser and Emily Wasser; and 10 greatgrandchildren
