Karen Kay Dunn, age 77, of Walla Walla, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. She was born to the late OA and Marjorie Leonard on Nov. 5, 1937.
Karen went to school in Pullman. She married Frank Dunn in 1961 and later divorced. She was an active member of the Wheatland Village Community and volunteered for and participated in many events and causes. Mom was a fighter and one to be admired – surviving breast cancer and battling heart and pulmonary hypertension for many years. As a survivor of breast cancer, Karen was also an active fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and she was the top fundraiser for the Walla Walla Relay for Life for several years in a row.
Karen, known as Kojak to her family and many friends, enjoyed craftwork, making greeting cards, painting, going to the coast, traveling, and she was never afraid of learning how to use new technology.
She was an active and longtime member of Assumption Catholic Church.
Family and friends were Karen’s passion and delight, especially her grandson’s Kyler and Kelson.
She enjoyed watching them grow up and excel in sports and school and enjoyed being called Grammzies. She loved traveling throughout Europe and her most recent adventures took her throughout the Hawaiian Islands with her son, Mark. She recently acquired a garden and vegetable plot and was planning and coordinating all the details with her son, Matt. She was instantly loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her and her unexpected passing has robbed us all from a future that would have been better with her included. May she soar
with the Angels.
Karen is survived by her brother, Ron Leonard and his wife Carol of Sacramento, Calif; son, Brent Dunn and his wife Juli of Walla Walla; son, Matt Dunn of Walla Walla; son, Mark Dunn of Monroe, Wash.; two
grandsons, Kyler and Kelson Dunn of Walla Walla; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
There will be a visitation from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. The memorial service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015, at Assumption of
