Judy Simmons passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 72.
Judy was born on July 18, 1953, in Dayton, Washington, to Morrison and Linda Groom. One of eight siblings, Judy’s early life shaped her resilience, and over time, she developed close, meaningful relationships with her brothers and sisters. In 1966, she moved with her family to Walla Walla, Washington.
Judy met Jim in 1982, and they moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1983, marrying the following year. She was proud of their more than forty years of marriage and the life they built together, including many summers spent boating in the San Juan Islands—time that held special meaning for them both.
Judy earned an accounting certificate and worked for more than 20 years at the DEQ before retiring. Following retirement, she and Jim returned to Walla Walla to be closer to family.
Judy took great pride in her children and cherished her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She found joy in cheering on her grandchildren at games and events, working on puzzles, and gardening. She had a special way with children, who all loved her dearly, and being with family was one of the greatest sources of happiness in her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Morrison and Linda; her brothers, Don and Dennis; her sister, Janell; and her grandson, Nick.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Scott; her daughter, Jana; her sisters, Sharon, Carol, and Donna; her brother, Darin; her grandchildren, Kendra, Grayson, Evan, and Emma; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Kyrie, and Ariyah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Judy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
