Juanita Grunwald

Juanita was born May
26, 1922, in Casper, Wyo.,
to Elmer and Hazel Edwards.

Her father worked helping to put in the natural
gas line from Texas to Montana, and the family
traveled with him. Juanita remembers spending one
summer living in a tent and her mother cooked for
the crew. When they got to Livingston, Mont., her
father liked it so much he got a gob with Montana
Power Company and there they stayed.

When Juanita was 10, her mother died, and she
helped raise her three younger sisters. She graduated
from Park County High School in 1940, and completed
one year of Junior college in Chico, Calif.
She married Frank Nardella in Livingston in 1941.
They had four children and were later divorced.
Juanita worked very hard to provide for her family.
She was an excellent seamstress and had her own
business making draperies for local families and
businesses in and around Livingston.

In 1969, she married Robert Grunwald and they had
many happy years together traveling to every state in
their motorhome and playing golf. After Bob’s death
she continued to drive to Yuma, Ariz., by herself up to
the age of 87! She spent the winter months there and
made many friends.

In 2008 she moved to Walla Walla to be near her oldest
daughter. Juanita was independent, courageous,
and fun loving. Everyday at 4 p.m. was “toddy time”
and we will all raise a glass to you mom!

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; sisters,
Maybelle Evans and Elnora Lawrence. She is
survived by her sister, Joyce Beard in California;
her children, Lynn Nardella (Sophie Sheppard), Lynore
Gehlhausen (Tim), Paul Nardella (Debbie), and
Nylah Nardella; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
one great-great grandchild; two nieces; two
nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice and Odd Fellows
for taking such good care of our mom and grandma.
There will be a family gathering in Montana this
summer. Memorials may be made to the Washington
Odd Fellows Home or the charity of choice through
