Josephine "Jo" Ruth Myers

January 5, 1926 — July 14, 2013

Josephine "Jo" Ruth Myers born January 5, 1926, passed peacefully on July 14, 2013 after a brief illness. Josephine was the fourth daughter to Iva and John Hunter of West Plains, MO. She grew up on their 600 acre farm where she shared many adventures with her four sisters. She attended Bakersfield High School where she met Charles D. Myers, who would be the love of her life for 65 years.

After WWII, Charles and Josephine were married and attended college in Springfield, MO. They were encouraged to come to Umatilla, Oregon by friends from college. Courageously, they packed their suitcase and came west. Charles began working for Tum-A-Lum Lumber Co. with whom he became the manager of their Walla Walla store in 1953.

Jo and Charlie became active members of the Pioneer Methodist Church participating in adult groups and encouraging their three boys to be active in scouting and youth fellowship groups. They shared their home with nine foster children over several years. Jo and Charlie participated in two church building missions in Jamaica and were very involved in the Walk To Emmaus retreats. Their long lasting friendships through the church meant a great deal to them.

Josephine is preceded in death by Charles who passed away in 2011. She is survived by her sisters, Jean Campbell of West Plains, Mo, her sister, Leta Barnes of Lamar, KS; her three sons, John Myers (Margie) of Richland, Allan Myers of Spokane, and Roger Myers (Janis) also from Spokane. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life is planned for 2:00 pm on July 27, 2013 at the Pioneer United Methodist Church, 209 E Birch St. Walla Walla, WA 99362. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Pioneer United Methodist Church Building Fund through the Professional Funeral Director & Crematory, 2112 S. 2nd, Walla Walla, WA.
