Joseph Koning

Joseph “Joe” Koning, 57, of Walla Walla, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on the evening of November 6, 2025.

Joe was born on December 11, 1967, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Ruth Edith Connett and Joseph Henry Koning. A 1986 graduate of Boonton High School (NJ), he went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force from 1986–1992 as a police security specialist, earning multiple decorations including the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars.

On September 3, 2010, he married his true love, Lorena Garanzuay, and together they lovingly raised a blended family of five daughters.

Joe was an admirable, extremely intelligent man of quiet strength and warm heart. His great sense of humor and his ability to make anyone around him smile were beloved traits. He delighted in cheering on the New York Jets, coaching youth softball, woodworking, cooking and baking, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family, friends, and dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Lorena; daughters, Danielle, Emily (Thompson), Michelle, Lauren, and Vanessa; grandchildren, Annabelle, Jazzlyn, Adeline, Miya, Gwendolyn, and Apollo; brother Daniel; sister-in-law Patti; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Joseph.

The Holy Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 6:00 PM, at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home. The Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Assumption Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
