John Allan Jones

John Allan Jones peacefully slipped away from us in the early morning hours on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the age of 93, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Walla Walla on October 8, 1929, to Edgar and Nellie Jones, he was the fourth of ten children. He graduated from Touchet High School in 1947. After working for his dad on the farm, John entered the Army in 1951, serving two years with a Tour of Duty as a Medic in the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Walla Walla, where he met his wife, Edith Lamperti. They were married on January 23, 1955.

For 30 years, John was a truck driver/trainer, retiring in 1995. During that time, he participated in 4 Truck Driving Rodeo Competitions, winning 3 National Championships. In addition, he enjoyed watching sports and loved all animals, especially dogs.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and St. Francis Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Warren, Daniel, and Douglas Jones; sisters Elsie Wells, Jean Sheppard, and Mary Barber; and son, Thomas (2014).

He is survived by his wife, Edith, of 68 years; daughter, Carol Borneman (John); grandson, Matthew Borneman (Alisha); granddaughter, Jacqueline Jones; brother, Lester Jones; sisters, Bernice Meade and Sandra Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be held on May 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. Francis Catholic Church, 722 West Alder Street, with Father Curtis Seidel Celebrating.
