John Daniel Hensley

My dear husband John Daniel Hensley went home to with God, he passed away at Providence St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born in Coalinga, California to Charley A. Hensley and Mona Whisonant Hensley. He grew up in Eureka, California and graduated from Eureka High School.

Right after Graduating he joined the Army; he was in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was in the military from 1958 until 1962. In 1960 he married Margaret Linda Kanagy. They would have been married 58 years in February. After the military he became an auto mechanic. In 1966 he went to work at Pacific Gas and Electric company, he was a lineman and later became a wireman electrician. In 1973 he and the family moved from Santa Rosa, California to Walla Walla, Washington, and he worked for Pacific Power.

He Belonged to the Eastgate Lions, the Eagles Lodge and the Sweet Onion Cribbage Club. He won the Championship of the club a couple of time. He enjoyed his trips to Reno to play in the Nationals; he enjoyed the many camping fishing trips to Georgetown Lake and Tongue River with the kids and grandkids in Montana. He had a quick since of humor and was a fun loving person, he loved his family.

He is survived by Son Chuck Hensley (Merna), grandkids Sabrina, Colleen and Adam, Daughter Tracy Thoreson (Don) grandkids Christopher, Caelyn, and Taylor, Son Steven Hensley (Susan) grandkids Daniel, Brittany, Hope and Fred. He also had extended family, Mark Kelso (Kim) grandkids Tyler and Jeff, Jay Geiger, grandkids Aaron and Shelby, Tonya Williams, grandson Daniel, niece Daylena Chapin, great-niece Chelsea Hagan (Patrick), and great-niece Tara Thomsen and son Michael.

He is preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, Sister Darlene Thomsen, brother-in-law Dick Thomsen, niece Mona Thomsen and cousin Dennis Chapin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society or the Eastgate Lions through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home 315 W Alder Walla Walla, WA.
