John Richard Allessio

April 24, 1924 — September 22, 2012

John R. Allessio 88 passed away at his home peacefully. He was the son of Carmen and Clara Allessio and the last remaining sibling of ten children. He was born in Walla Walla. Carmen and Clara immigrated here from Italy.

John married Mary Thorne in 1947. John served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and served until the end of the war in Europe. He worked at Pacific Power and Light for 36 years. After retiring, he drove school bus for several years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, boating, playing cards and golfing. He could fix just about anything. He loved to worry about his children and enjoyed hanging with and feeding his grandkids Italian goodies. He loved to share whatever he had.

He is survived by his wife Mary at home; sons, Stephen M. Allessio (Bonnie) & John J. Allessio (Teresa) both of Walla Walla; daughters; Sandra M. Brulotte (Dick) of Yakima and Mary Ann Allessio of Walla Walla; several grandkids, great grandkids. nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen and Clara Allessio; brothers, Mike Allessio, Frank Allessio, Sam Allessio, Rudy Allessio; sisters; Clara Biagi, Lena Bocol, Vina Pike, Jenny Baldwin and Mary Sutherland.

Viewing & visitation at Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA will be on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM also at the Herring Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or the American Lung Association through the funeral home.
