Jerome Donald Baumann

August 28, 1955 — August 22, 2016

Walla Walla

Jerry passed away peacefully at his
home with his loving wife and family by
his side on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, after
a nine year battle with cancer.
Jerome Donald Baumann was born Aug. 28, 1955,
in Marathon County, Wis., to Norbert and Dorothy
Baumann. He was number 7 of 10 children. Moving
from the Wisconsin dairy farm at age 6 with his family
to Walla Walla, Jerry attended Assumption Grade
School and Pioneer Jr. High. In 1970 he and his three
younger siblings moved with their parents to a farm
outside Colville, Wash. Jerry attended and graduated
from Colville High School in 1973. After graduation,
he then returned to Walla Walla and went to work for
Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. In 1989, Jerry began
employment as a correctional officer at the Washington
State Penitentiary where he was still employed at
the time of his death.
In September 2013, Jerry married the love of his
life, Sherry Moore. Together they enjoyed their farm,
raising horses, cattle and hay. As sole mates, they
cherished every minute they were together. Everyday
started and ended with a kiss. Their loved prevailed
above and beyond Jerry’s battle with cancer as Sherry
unwaveringly accepted the role of caregiver. Sherry’s
strong determination to care for Jerry allowed him to
remain at home and peacefully pass away there.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Sherry; son,
Nick Baumann; daughter-in-law, Nicole Wolf; granddaughter,
Bethany Wolf; and his two dogs, Riley and
Katy. He is also survived by his remaining eight
brothers and sisters: Carol “Frank” Noal, Gene
“Sheri” Baumann, Bob “Kathy” Baumann, Barb
Kinman, Fran “Mary” Baumann, James Baumann,
Norbert “Trudy” Baumann, and Germaine “Steve”
Brown. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law,
Sue Baumann; many nieces and nephews along with
great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his parents; and his oldest brother, Tom.
Jerry’s recent words to his family were, “This is easy
for me. It will be tough for you but you all will be ok.
I’m not far away as I’m in your hearts.”
Jerry was very thankful and appreciative of his
Penitentiary co-workers. He considered them part of
his family as they unselfishly helped him in his long
battle with cancer by donating leave time, providing
emotional support, helping on the farm, and aided in
many other ways. Jerry talked highly of them often
and held them in his heart to the end. He was proud
and honored to work beside them.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4,
from 1-3:30 p.m. at Assumption Parish Hall.
At Jerry’s request, donations can be made to Children’s
Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle thru Herring
Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla WA 99362.
