Jeffrey Robert Sphuler, 54, died at his home where he resided with his daughter, Lizabeth Sphuler and granddaughter, Jasmine Sphuler in Walla Walla Saturday, November 2, 2013.
Jeff was born May 6, 1959 at Mt Carmel Hospital in Colville, Washington. He went to grade school in Marcus, Washington and graduated from Kettle Falls High School. As a young boy, he enjoyed photography. In 1977, he was wed to Joyce Matlock and together they had 4 children.
Jeff provided for his family in a variety of ways by working as a farm hand, at the lumber mill and raising pigs, but his dream was to go to college to become an x-ray tech. He took the big step and attended college in Spokane, WA and finished his degree in Wenatchee, WA. He was extremely proud and happy…although, he always did tell the kids he should have been a singer and to demonstrate it, he would crank the stereo in the pickup and sing his heart out to Foreigner, Hot Blooded.
He then moved the family to Clarkston, WA in 1990 to take a job at St. Joseph's Regional Hospital. While on the job, he was able to also learn and specialize in Cat-scan. He loved his job and co-workers but after a divorce, he relocated to Walla Walla, WA in 2002. He then wed Julie Morasch and worked at the Walla Walla General Hospital as the weekend x-ray tech which gave him the weekdays to enjoy all of his many hobbies and spending quality time with family. Over the years in Walla Walla, he became friends with Cory Ongers and Eric Swanson who he considered like brothers. They enriched his life greatly and Jeff's family will forever be grateful for their enduring friendship. May 30th, 2012, Jeff was dealt the tragedy of losing his wife, Julie.
Jeff was an antique and coin collector but above all an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting taking him to as far as Alaska and South Africa. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh. He could look quite intimidating, but underneath it he was just a big teddy bear with such a kind and compassionate heart. Anyone that knew Jeff could see what great love he had for his children who were nothing but his pride and Joy. He would literally beg or bribe them with soda money to tickle his feet after a long day of work. He was a man of God who had great faith and raised his children with those values. He lived a good life with so many wonderful memories left behind for all to cherish.
Jeff is survived by; parents, Dick and Pat Sphuler of Evans, WA; his 5 brothers, Rick (Sandy), Mike (Ranae), Jack (Alisa), Dave (Angie), Scott (Mary) and many nieces and nephews; his 4 children, their spouses and 10 grandchildren; Johnie and Heidi Sphuler (Isaak, Noah, Gunnar & Sawyer) of Minnesota, Abbie and Rob Farrell (Samantha & Carter) of Clarkston, WA, Calvin and Hillary Sphuler (Katelyn, Jonah & Emily) of Kalispell, Montana, Lizabeth Sphuler & Jasmine Sphuler of Walla Walla, WA.
