Janet Alexander Opp

April 27, 1952 — July 25, 2023

Walla Walla

With heavy hearts, we share that Janet Alexander Opp passed away on July 25, 2023, at the age of 71. She was born on April 27, 1952, in Walla Walla, WA, where she lived with her parents and siblings. After graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1970, Janet attended DeMers Beauty School. Shortly after, she moved to Spokane, WA, where she worked at a gallery in charge of window displays which kicked started her love of interior design. Janet married Bob Bradshaw, and they had two children: Jeffrey and Kristina.

Janet dreamed of expanding her career in interior design, and in 1980, she moved to Anchorage, AK, for an incredible offer at Ethan Allen Gallery. While there, she completed her degree in Interior design at the University of Alaska. Janet referred to Alaska as “God’s Country,” and she lived a very active and outdoor-focused life. It was in Alaska where Janet truly found herself and her love of nature.

In 1985, Janet met and married Douglas Dicken, and in 1989, they welcomed their son, Andy Dicken, in Seattle, WA. In 1996 Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent intensive treatment at Swedish Hospital. Janet’s light, humor, unwavering tenancy, and addiction to “juicing” brought her to a full recovery.

In 2000, Janet returned to Walla Walla to spend time with her dad, who was ill. At that time, Janet began working for Brickstone Furniture.

One fateful night at a Baker Boyer Bank Christmas Party, she met the love of her life. Janet and Larnie fell madly in love and were married on October 18, 2008, in a beautiful ceremony at Three Rivers Winery. This union kicked off a 15-year ride of fun and adventures. But the most cherished part of their lives are their six beautiful grandchildren. Janet always said that grandchildren are the gold of our lives.

In 2021, Janet was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Following her diagnosis, Janet not only fought for her life but spread inspiration to all through her efforts to overcome this devastating diagnosis.

Janet always said that family is very important, but the company we keep shapes the context of our lives. She has much gratitude for all of the friends that she encountered on her journey. Janet wanted all her friends to know that there are not enough words, hugs, or tears to share with them for their love and support.

Janet is survived by her husband, Larnie Opp; son, Jeffrey Bradshaw; daughter, Kristina Bradshaw; son, Andy Dicken; grandchildren, Dustin, Hailey, Brooklyn, Jax, Peyton, and Emma; and two brothers.
