Janet Garr, better known as “Kay” to her family & friends, passes away peacefully on June 16, 2013 with her family by her side. She was 73.
Janet Kay Garr was born on September 17, 1939 in Vancouver, Washington to Lorraine LeMonds & Velmore Robins. She attended Walla Walla High School & was the eldest sibling of three brothers: Tom & Barb Seiner of Walla Walla; Ed & Renee Seiner of Finley & Jim Seiner of Dixie. In 1957, Kay married Jay Garr, a dam building whom she later divorced. Kay was the loving mother of 4 children all of whom survive her; Bill & Carrie Garr of Vancouver, Steve & Beverly Garr of Everett, Dawn & Dan Coronado of Walla Walla, Stormy & Mike Sager of Washougal.
Kay loved reading books, especially the murder-mystery genre. She enjoyed gardening & was also an accomplished homemaker. While her children were young, Kay worked from home providing daycare services. In 1982, Kay began working for the Odd Fellows Nursing Home where she worked for 24 years until her retirement in 2006.
In 1990, Kay went back to school & received her GED. Kay was the adoring grandmother of 6 grandchildren who spent many weekend sleepovers with her in their younger years; making each of them their personal favorite morning breakfast. She is survived by all 6 grandchildren, Aryielle Gardner, Jessica Moore of Vancouver; Wendy Gardner of Welchs, OR, Jacob, Andrea & Jeremy Coronado of Walla Walla.
In recent years, Kay battled health issues but still managed to visit her great granddaughter, Cali Coronado every week. She resided over the last 22 years with her roommate, Shirley Roesch.
The Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA with Rev. Steve Morris officiating.
