James William Elliott

February 12, 1922 — March 17, 2015

James Elliott, longtime resident of and contributor to the community of Walla Walla, passed away on March 17, 2015.

He was 93. James and Edna, married for 67 years, moved to Walla Walla in the early 1950s from Memphis, Tenn.

As a young man James was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, leading a tank unit and serving in the Philippines during World War II. James worked as a mason on projects around the region, including several buildings on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, and then ran his own construction business in Walla Walla.

They raised two sons, James Jr. (deceased) and Keith Elliott (Tacoma). James was active in the local Masonic order for most of his life. After retirement, James enjoyed fishing, dominos, watching baseball and visiting with his many friends in the neighborhood. If you knew James, you had a friend!

In addition to his wife and son, James is survived by two sisters, two brothers and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, 631 S. Douglas Ave., Pasco, on Friday, March 27, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow. Visitation at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla on Thursday, March 26, 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Baptist Church through the funeral home.
