James William Angus Sr.

February 1, 1923 — September 27, 2011

James (Jim) Angus passed away on September 27th at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Walla Walla, WA. Born on February 1, 1923, on a farming homestead in the rolling Palouse hills, James Angus was the child of Ernest and Lillie Angus. Raised on the Angus homestead, he later lived and worked the family farm until his retirement in 2008 whereupon he relocated to Walla Walla, Washington.

James married his childhood sweetheart, Virginia Mae Crutcher, in 1944 and together, they raised their four children: Jim, Wendie, Claudia, and Nancy. A life-long farmer, Jim also drove school bus for both the Pine City and St. John school districts, while also managed the grain elevator for the Inland Empire Milling Company.

He was a member of the Kenova Grange and Malden Masonic Lodge. James served on the Whitman County Library Board and was an affiliate of the Auxiliary for the National Association of Postmasters; he also served as deacon for the Malden Community Church.

Jim was well known for his kind and gentle spirit and he befriended and will be remembered by all he met. His face always shined with a warm smile and twinkling eyes, while his heart was filled with music; as evidenced by his frequent tendency to break into song in the kitchen or by his bold piano playing in the basement. Jim enjoyed puzzles, word play, crosswords and games of all kinds. He also loved and tended his gardens. Moreover, he loved his family and friends.

Jim Angus will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all: his loving wife Virginia; his children, Jim (and Judy) Angus, Claudia Angus, Nancy (and John) Price; and, his many adoring grandchildren, Heather Dollarhide, Scott Angus, Kristin Mortenson, Jami Eggart, Jonathan Price, Mishel Wheeler, Adam Price and Chris Bigley. He will also be missed by his great grandchildren, Madison, Jackson and Cade Dollarhide, Macy and Micah Eggart, Noelle Wheeler and Isabella Price.

James was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ernest and Lillie Angus, his sisters, Margaret Blume and Gladys Angus, and his beloved daughter, Wendie Howard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 29th, at 4:00 pm at the Park Plaza Retirement Center, 1400 Dalles Military Rd. Walla Walla. The public is invited. Burial will be held on October 1st at 1:00 pm at the Pine City Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service and dinner at Malden Community Church, Malden WA. Memorial donations may be made to the Malden Community Church or to the charity of the giver’s choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
