Jacqueline "Jackie" Mortier

January 17, 1936 — February 27, 2023

Dayton

Jacqueline “Jackie” Mortier was born on January 17, 1936, in Snohomish, WA, to Robert L. Clark and Dorothy (Remington) Clark. She grew up in LaGrande, Oregon, where she graduated from high school. On November 14, 1954, she married the love of her life, Myron Mortier. Together they had three daughters, Marva, Terri, and Cathy. They raised their girls in Dayton, Washington, where Jackie’s primary devotion was being a homemaker.

She also worked numerous jobs at Dayton General Hospital, where Myron was the administrator, filling in when a department was short on help. She worked in the kitchen, laundry, housekeeping, and on the floor as a nurse’s aide, but primarily she worked for many years in Medical Records.

Jackie loved to teach her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, all the necessities of life. She would tell her grandkids, “Stop. Look up and look down, so you don’t miss things in life.” She was a talented seamstress with a passion for cooking, canning, knitting, and bird watching, but mostly gardening.

When Myron was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, she devoted her time to his care. When she could no longer give him the care he needed, she was at his bedside every day at the care facility.

Jackie was diagnosed with dementia and was able to stay at home for several years. She then lived with her daughter, Marva, who, with her sisters, cared for her until the disease made it unsafe.

She was a devout Christian who received her wings on February 27, 2023, with her family by her side.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Arthur Clark.

She is survived by her brothers, Richard Clark of LaGrande, Oregon, and Kenneth Clark, of Walla Walla, WA; daughter, Marva Thomas; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Randy James; daughter, Cathy Abel; and son-in-law Lupe Benavides, all of Dayton, WA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angela, Andy, and Nick Benavides; Miranda Bowen, Ashley Hatfield, and Drew James; Nathaniel, Gabe, and Tylor Abel; 23 great-grandkids; and three great-great-grandkids.

A graveside service and celebration of life will be held in mid-May.
