Iva Jean Weaver

A Celebration of the Life of Iva Jean Weaver, of Touchet, Washington, will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011, at New Life Church, with Pastors Rocco Shanks, Glen Reavis, and Tom Pousche officiating. Interment will be Monday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m., at the Touchet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Touchet Education Foundation or Big Rig Celebrates through the Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. Big Rig Celebrates is a CD ministry for truckers and travelers established by Dr. Tom and Kathy Pousche.

Jean passed away at Walla Walla General Hospital on September 28, 2011. The youngest of nine children, she was born in Prescott, Washington, to Gilbert Barry and Mabel Beatrice Reavis. The family lived on a wheat farm in Prescott, where she attended Prescott School along with her seven brothers and sister. She was the apple of her Daddy’s eye. They moved to a farm in Touchet, Washington, when she was in fourth grade.

She met John William Weaver, the love of her life, in the eighth grade. They dated all through high school, enjoying church, school, and community activities. John and Jean married June 14, 1947, at the Touchet Community Church. After the honeymoon, John started haying and Jean began cooking for the hay crew. They raised eleven children on the family farms in the Touchet-Lowden area. Jean embraced the role of supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother until the day she left for heaven. She was a joyful person, who loved the Lord and everyone she knew. She loved friends of her children like they were her own.

Jean’s nurturing and love of people, especially children, will last for more than a lifetime. The positive and supportive legacy for her family will be carried out eternally. Favorite memories include shopping, ballgames, car trips, music, card games around the kitchen table, reading stories aloud, and so many more than can ever be listed are cherished by all who knew her. She is described well in Proverbs 31; noble, hardworking, without bitterness or complaint, finding the best in every situation, and praying through life’s trials with hope in the promises of God.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue….Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:10-31

Jean is survived by John, her beloved husband at home; three daughters and their spouses, Dan and Naomi Carlisle of Touchet; Tom and Kathy Pousche of Camas, Washington; Richard and Jan Bray of Walla Walla; a son-in-law, Dale Carlisle of Touchet; six sons and their spouses, Les and Karen Weaver of Wenatchee; Dean and Karen-Kirkwood Weaver of Walla Walla; Jim and Teresa Weaver, Tom and Patsy Weaver, Chuck and Molly Weaver, and Don and Polli Weaver all of Touchet; a brother, Pastor Glen Reavis, 28 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded into a new life by a daughter, Cindy Lee Carlisle; son, Dave Weaver; six brothers, Harold, Aubrey, Kermit “Chug,” Elmer “Dutch,” Bob, and Earl “Pete” Reavis; and one sister, Betty Van Slooten.
