Local resident Hugh (Hawk) Moore died at his home
Saturday morning, March 10, 2012. He is survived by
his wife of 38 years, Patrice; his son, Jeffrey Matthew
of Fukuoka, Japan; and his faithful cat, Black Jack.
Hugh was born in Christiansburg, Va., on March 17,
1954, to Robert C. and Arline Moore. Hugh’s father
was a career military officer and the family moved
extensively during his childhood, including Germany
and Japan. He graduated from high school in El Paso,
Texas, in 1971. After receiving a degree in radio and
television repair from Texas State Technical Institute
he moved to Columbus, Ga., where he met and married
Patrice Thomas. A year after their marriage Hugh
and Pat moved to Pendleton, before coming to Walla
Walla in 1985.
Hugh was previously employed at Marsh Radio before
completing his bachelor of science degree at Walla Walla
College. He was employed as a biomedical electronics
technician at the VA Medical Center at the time of
his death. Hugh was a quiet man who enjoyed music,
collecting tall ships, Looney Tunes and Old West memorabilia.
He was a member of the East End Rod and
Gun Club, Waitsburg Gun Club and the Walla Walla
Rose Society. He was also a former member of the
Elks, Lions Clubs and Eagles of both Pendleton and
Walla Walla. Hugh enjoyed traveling with his family,
including trips to Hawaii, Spain, Canada and recently
Japan to visit his son, Jeff. Dining out was another of
Hugh’s favorite activities.
Hugh was preceded in death by his father, retired Col.
Robert C Moore. He is survived by his mother, Arline
Moore; and sisters, Anna (Mike) Putnam of Columbus,
Ga., Roberta (Jim) Austin of Alpharetta, Ga., Lynn
(David) Hughes of Pensacola, Fla.; and sister-in-law,
Joette (Bob) Young of Pendleton. He is also survived
by two uncles, Steve (Marjorie) Moore, Noble (Patsy)
Moore; nephews, Robert Austin, Michael and Stephen
Young; nieces, Melanie (Andy) Bankston and Megan
Mann.
A service of support and encouragement will be held
at 11 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran
Church of Walla Walla, 109 S. Roosevelt St.,
Walla Walla, with Rev. Dr. Stephen P. Juergensen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Eye
Foundation or the American Red Cross through the
Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St.,
