Helene D. Paul passed away November 28, 2011 at Park Manor Nursing Home at the age of 93.
Helene was born June 8, 1918 to James Troy and Della Kathryn Standley Deeter in Heyburn, Idaho. She graduated from Wa Hi in 1936 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She married Joseph Roger Paul December 14, 1939 in Lewiston, Idaho. They had 4 children, 1 daughter Nancy Cheryl, deceased, and 3 sons, Joseph James Paul, Walla Walla, Thomas Roger Paul, Kennewick, WA and Patrick Michael Paul, Walla Walla.
In her younger years, she worked in sales at J.C. Newberry’s in Walla Walla and taught Sunday school. She also was a substitute rural route mail carrier and a shop owner selling antiques and collectables. She was a past board member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the planning committee for the present Church building. For a number of years, she was president of the Grace United Methodist Women’s group, president of the Prospect Point PTA and Pre School. She was a room mother for a number of her 3 son’s classrooms. She was a 4 H leader for 15 years of the Barnyard Champs 4 H group and den mother for all 3 son’s Cub Scout troops.
She enjoyed bowling, square dancing and playing cards with friends. In particular, in her later years, she enjoyed the weekly Pinochle games with her friends and 2 of her nieces Shirley Johnson and Marilyn Reddish. She was blessed with many long time friends and treasured family. She considered herself especially blessed to have nieces Shirley Johnson and Marilyn Reddish who gave her loving care for a number of years which allowed her to stay in her home and continue to be active following pursuits she enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Della Deeter; 2 brothers, James Hurley Deeter and Dick Dalton Deeter; 2 sisters, Mary Faye Schrupan and Wilma Virginia Harbert; her loving husband, Joseph Roger Paul, daughter, Nancy Cheryl; and son, Patrick Michael Paul. Helene is survived sons, Joseph James Paul of Walla Walla and Thomas Roger Paul of Kennewick; 2 sisters-in-law, Rose Paul of Walla Walla and Jeannie Deeter, of Beaumont, California. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grand children and great great grandchildren.
The Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Weistaner officiating. There will be a private family interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Women Association through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
