Helen (Connie) Hofer Wyrick passed away January 31, 2017, in Walla Walla. She was born February 7, 1916, to Gene and Amelia (Rizzuti) Connery at home on a small farm in Walla Walla. She attended Braden School, St. Vincent’s Academy and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1933. After a year of working, she enrolled in the Saint Mary School of Nursing and graduated with her RN degree.
In 1938, she married Mike Hofer and they had three children: Patti Grant (John), Pam Cummings (Richard), and Ken Hofer (Pat). They lived on a wheat farm 12 miles north of Prescott and Connie was actively involved in her children’s activities and Prescott women’s clubs. She and Mike enjoyed bowling, playing bridge with their Prescott neighbors, dancing and traveling extensively. For many years, she cooked for their harvest crews.
Following Mike’s death in 1980, Connie and Wayne Wyrick were married in 1981 and resided in Milton- Freewater. Connie continued to bowl with a Walla Walla team and joined the Nine Holers women’s golf group at the Walla Walla Country Club. She and Wayne enjoyed golfing, dancing, dining with friends on Friday nights and traveling throughout the U.S. and in Europe. One of their last trips was to visit her granddaughter, Sarah Grant, in Budapest.
In 2013, Wayne and Connie moved to Wheatland Village where Wayne passed away in 2014. Connie continued her active social life. She loved getting together with family and friends, especially for a party. She continued to keep active, playing bridge with her Wednesday bridge group, shopping, and going out to lunch until this past December.
Connie is survived by her three children and their spouses; brother, Robert Connery (Dolores); sister, Nita Daudt; step-children, Cheryl Carr (Robert), Ted Wyrick, Connie Clements (Brian), Carrie Lockhart; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edith Bagley and Betty Medlar; brother, Armada Connery; her husbands; and an infant son, John Hofer.
Viewing and visitation will be held at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home and will begin at 3 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2017, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m., and 10 a.m. funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church followed by burial at Mountain View Cemetery and a reception at Jacobi’s.
