Helen G. Rose Hager, 100, passed away Feb. 29, 2012, at her home in Wheatland Village. She was born in Manlius, Illinois to William and Grace Rose. She attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married John B. Hager in 1950. They lived in North Liberty, Iowa, moving to Walla Walla in 1981. Helen was employed as a bookkeeper for 40 years at various companies. She was city clerk in North Liberty, Iowa, retiring in 1975. After moving to Walla Walla, she volunteered at the Department of Social and Health Services for 10 years and was also involved with the Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by her sister, Arlene Allison (Bill), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ester L. Rose, Walla Walla; special nieces and nephews, Sharon Schmatt, Walla Walla, Stewart W (Marilyn) Rose, Great Falls, Mont., Miko Rose, Walla Walla; numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death, along with her husband, John; six brothers; one sister; special nephew, Steven A. Rose. Helen especially enjoyed her breakfast outings with family and friends and loved to laugh.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Wagner Chapel at Wheatland Village, 1500 Catherine St, and Rev. Walt Meske presiding. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Senior Citizens Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
