Helen M. Bowman

Helen M. (Jean) Bowman passed into eternity with Jesus and many loved ones at the age of 96 at Providence St. Mary’s Hospital, Walla Walla, Washington on May 17, 2015.
Jean, an identical twin, was born to Andrew Marlow and Belle Delaney Marlow, the third of eight siblings on December 28, 1918 in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Her family relocated to Oregon in 1935 by way of Grand Junction, Colorado, where she and her twin sang on the radio for a time before eventually settling in Baker County, Oregon.
Jean married her husband of 47 years, Frank G. Bowman, a local rancher, on October 11, 1938. She was the ultimate homemaker who loved cooking, gardening, canning and preserving, and crocheting while raising four kids, chickens and turkeys. She loved to fish, camp and hunt alongside her husband, family and friends. She was known for her beautiful smile; loved by so many and a friend to everyone who knew her. Her home was welcoming and open to all throughout her lifetime. Jean was actively involved in her communities; serving in various positions in the Eagle Valley Grange in Richland, Oregon, the Baker County Home Extension, her church and Baker City Food Co-op. Jean moved to Walla Walla, WA in 2000 to be nearer to her daughter where she continued to enrich the lives of everyone around her.
Jean is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Bowman; daughter, Ruth Bowman (Everett); son, Lyle Bowman (Lavaughn); son, Lloyd Bowman (Sherryll); sixteen grandchildren, and numerous great and great, great grandchildren; enjoying a full five generations for the last twenty years.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husband, Frank Bowman, son, Garry Bowman, grandson, Doug Anderson and three great grandsons.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held beginning 1 pm on June 27, 2015 at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H Street, Baker City, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in Helen (Jean) Bowman’s name to Eagle Valley Ambulance, Milton-Freewater Ambulance or a charity of donor’s choice, in care of Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 215 West Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
