Harry was born and raised in Walla Walla where he attended Berney Elementary and Walla Walla High School. Harry joined the Navy in the early 1950’s and later transferred to the Army. Harry served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. Warrant Officer Harry L. Gardner retired from the Army after proudly serving 21 years in the United States Military. The Gardner family has been in the Walla Walla area since the late 1800’s. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Gardner; six brothers, Edwin, Mick and Eugene Woods, Blair, Stanley and Wayne Gardner. Harry is survived by his first wife, Patricia (Bennett) Gardner of Walla Walla, together they had five children, Harry L. Gardner III, Vancouver, Leon R. Gardner, Federal Way, Wash., Stanley E. Gardner, Freemont, Calif, Rebecca A. Gardner, Milton-Freewater, and Randi G. Laus Oshkosh, Wisc. He also leaves his second wife, Pamela (Radke) Gardner, Appleton, Wisc., and their two children, Buffy M. Gardner-Huff, Condon. Ore., Benjamin J. Gardner, Embarrass, Wisc.; 15 grandchildren including Frederick and Blair W. Gardner, Milton-Freewater; five great-grandchildren.
Harry enjoyed fishing, cooking for friends and family and telling jokes. He always made time to talk and make friends with the people he came in contact with. Harry will be missed by all.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Salvation Army or the National Humane Society through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. until after services have concluded. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Graham officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.
