Harriette Helen Dowden

Harriette Helen Chandler Johnson-Dowden passed away to her eternal home on May 29, 2018.

Harriette Chandler was born on June 5, 1925 in Larimore, Union, Iowa.  After High school, she moved to Seattle, WA.  Became employed at Boeing, as a Riveter & typist she than transferred briefly to Alaska.  Upon moving to Walla Walla, she worked for the Marcus Whitman Hotel & met her husband Clifford L. Johnson, Sr. who was also employed there; together they raised 4 children.

Harriette became the Catalog manager for Montgomery Wards, & ran a tight ship; she was an avid bowler, liked to go fishing & camping, and playing cards.  Harriette was widowed in 1969, and later retired to Roseburg, OR. With her husband Eulan Dowden, where they lived for 20yrs.  Harriette spent the last ten yrs in WW, passionate about her gardening & walking every day.

Harriette is survived by her children: daughter Frances (Dave) Hanselman, of Newburg, Oregon, David (Judy) Johnson, Sr. of WW. Cliff (Laura) Johnson, Jr. of WW, Daniel (Linda) Johnson, of WW.   Brother Harold (Karen) Chandler, of Los Molinos, CA., & Rex Lawton, of CA.  Harriette is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister Beulah Mae Reese, sister Mary Jo Payne, brother Jerry Lawton, by husband Clifford L. Johnson, Sr., & husband Eulan J. Dowden, and her parents Harold Chandler, Sr., & Margaret Helen Davis.

She was loved by many, and will be missed for her fun, feisty outlook on life.

Harriette has requested that no funeral service be held.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Christian Aide Center of Walla Walla, through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. Walla Walla, WA.
