Long time Walla Walla County resident Harold Mitchell, 96, passed away October 25, 2011.
Viewing & visitation will be Friday, October 28, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla. The graveside service will be Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 SE Myra Rd, Walla Walla, WA with Jerry Quaresma, nephew of Harold officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in Spokane, WA, or charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Bradshaw, NE, on February 3, 1915 to Chester and Laura Mitchell. After graduating high school, he found his way to the northwest during the depression and World War II. He settled in the Waitsburg area in 1936. In 1957 he married Josephine (Jo) and her family of 3; within a year, Jim’s birth made it a complete 6 pack.
He enjoyed being involved with various local organizations. He was honored to be selected as Waitsburg Parade Marshall. In addition, he was often an important part of family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Harold is survived by sister Rosana Quaresma; daughter Linda DeRuwe and husband Tim of Touchet, WA; son Don Lytle and wife Terry of Helena, Mt; son James Mitchell of Waitsburg WA; two daughters by marriage Betty Hofer of Waitsburg, WA; and Diana Patrick of Hingham, MT; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife Josephine; 1 son Winton (Dudley) Lytle; and 1 grandson Lenny Lytle.
