Harold Robert Ellenberger, 76, passed away Jan. 28, 2016, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla after experiencing several years of medical-related issues.
Harold was born March 26, 1939, in Walla Walla to Alexander and Lucille Ellenberger. Harold grew up in Walla Walla, attending Washington School, Pioneer Junior High School, graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1958.
Harold worked as a refrigeration engineer, spending a few years in Walla Walla and then moving to Portland to work for Northwest Ice and Cold Storage. The last 10 years of his career were spent working for Henningsen Cold Storage in Forest Grove, Ore.
Harold enjoyed life. He always had a smile on his face. Fishing, being with old friends, meeting newpeople and traveling were some of his favorite times.
Harold is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Cheri Ellenberger of Vancouver, Wash.; step-son, Scott Carmichael (Jani) of Hillsboro, Ore.; brothers, Jack Ellenberger of Yakima, Ernie Long of Yakima; Donnie Long of Walla Walla; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and special friends. Preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandmother, Margaret Nelson; brother, Dick McCallum. The family would like to thank Dr. Barga and the St. Mary medical staff who provided Harold with exceptional care.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at the Courtyard Marriott, 550 W. Rose St., Walla Walla, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date.
