Harbert “Harby” Beach Drake rode off into his final sunset peacefully at 1:53 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017. He was surrounded by friends and family.
An enduring icon of Walla Walla, he was born an only child on December 24, 1930, and will be laid to rest here, alongside his mother and father. Our “peacock” has returned to the beautiful bounty of the universe and is continually spreading his colorful wings around us all! Harby, at heart, was always an artistic cowboy. A stylized soul who filled his spaces with artifacts of love, humor and personal history. Through two sets of families, Harby lived a joyous life maneuvering through the blessings and numerous friendships of a lifetime. He will be greatly missed by his four children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren all across this Evergreen state. His family would like to acknowledge the support, love and friendships established in his final chapters; especially at the Washington Odd Fellows and First Presbyterian Church of College Place.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Mountain View Cemetery of Walla Walla. Come honor Harby and our celebration of his life with his family and friends at the Foundry Vineyards Tasting Gallery, 1111 Abadie St., from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Humane Society or Walla Walla Community College Rodeo Program through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla.
