Gustav J. Siedler

March 23, 1921 — June 17, 2014

Gustav J. Siedler was born in Wielka Wies, Poland in 1921 and went into God's loving arms on June 17, 2014. He served on behalf of the Allied Powers in the Polish-British and American armies during WWII. After serving in Korea, he continued his US Army service as teacher at the University of Seoul, Education Advisor for the Army Chemical Center in Fort Lewis, WA, and finished his service as Chief Administrator for Nuclear and Radiological Defense for the Third Army in Frankfurt, Germany.

While serving for his beloved country, Gus worked to receive his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and master's degree from Johns Hopkins. He retired from the US Army in 1968 at which time he continued his love of teaching. Gus taught history at Wa-Hi from 1969-1984.

In his personal life, Gus loved to garden and grew 7 foot tall tomato plants with a bounty to share with family, friends and those in need. Gus also loved to fish and could often be seen sitting on his blue chair at the reservoir reeling in fish after fish (but always within the legal limits!). When he wasn't spending time with family and friends or in recreation, you would find Gus volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul or St Patrick's where he was always ready to share a story and a smile. He was a father, grandfather, veteran, teacher, carpenter, watch repairman, shoe repairman and all around good man. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Gisela, and family: 5 daughters & 10 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, in-laws (and outlaws) here and abroad.

The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The Memorial Funeral Service and Military Honors will be on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Herring Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church through the funeral home.
