Gordon Page, a beloved father, grandfather, and community member, passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day, 2025. Born in Nelson, British Columbia, in 1936, Gordon moved with his family to Walla Walla in 1949. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1954 and went on to earn a degree in Agronomy with a minor in Forestry from Washington State University in 1958.
While at WSU, Gordon would return home to assist with the family business, Page’s Landscaping, planting the seeds for what would become a lifelong passion. After graduating, he served his country as part of a six-year military obligation, including two years of active duty at bases in Monterey, California, and Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by inactive and reserve service.
After his active duty, Gordon began his professional career running the soil lab for Armour in Nashville, Tennessee. During his time in Nashville, he also worked as a research lab assistant at Vanderbilt University, contributing to cancer research. Ever resourceful, Gordon sold Christmas trees at Kroger’s Grocery Store, where his expertise often led to impromptu conversations about tree care. He also refereed semi-pro hockey in Nashville and Florida, showcasing his adaptability and passion for the sport.
It was in Nashville that Gordon met his future wife, Nancy (Shanks) Head, during a tennis match in a local park. The couple married in 1964 and returned to Walla Walla to raise their three children. Although Gordon and Nancy divorced, they remained proud of their family.
Gordon dedicated over 60 years to Page’s Landscaping, helping to beautify countless homes and businesses in the Walla Walla area. For the past 25 of those years, he worked alongside his daughter Christie, passing down his love of horticulture and commitment to hard work.
Gordon will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and encyclopedic knowledge of plants and trees. He is survived by his three children, Gordy (Suzette) Page of Sacramento, Doug (Barbara) Page of Aberdeen and Christie (Brock) Walters of Walla Walla, brothers Jack Page of Boise and Ronald Page of Walla Walla as well as his grandchildren, and countless friends and clients who were touched by his work and generosity.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home in Walla Walla.
